Learning Support Assistant
Welcome to Year 4!
Our Year 4 teachers are Mrs Bennett and Miss Beckwith who are assisted by Mrs Smallwood.
Here, you will find information about what we do in Year 4. You will be able to see photographs of some of our work and see some of our displays.
Every child has a guided reading session once a week and where possible, they are heard to read individually by the LSA or teacher. Children will be given plenty of opportunities to read during the week: whole class reading, guided reading in small groups, independent reading and buddy reading. Please encourage your child to read their own books at home for literal understanding and inference. Please ensure your child's reading record is signed at least once a week.
This year the children will prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. We support this preparation in school through prayer, hymns and regular visits from Father Tim.
Year 4 have a wonderful opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument. Every Friday morning, a specialist music teacher will deliver guitar lessons to each class. The children will be given a guitar which is theirs to use during the year. Please take care of these instruments and ensure they are in school every Friday. Remember practice is extremely important for progress.
Year 4's PE days are Monday and Wednesday please ensure children have wear their kits on that day!
Thank you for your support.
Homework Year 4
In Year 4 Homework is set on a Monday and should be completed and brought into school for the following Monday. Homework will take a variety of forms and may consist of a topic based piece of research, a worksheet, SPAG activity etc. Similarly to Year 3, Maths homework will be set each Monday using the ‘My Maths’ online programme and pupil progress is tracked by the class teacher online. This should be completed for the following Monday. An ongoing Maths topic to be looked at in year 4 is Time. We ask the children to ask questions about time and look at watches and clocks to help them.
Spelling lists are issued on a half termly basis. From this week, the children will be tested on a Friday. Week 2 on 14th September 2018 . Should you misplace your spelling list, you will find a copy on our school website on the Year 4 page.
The children are expected to know by heart all of their multiplication tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4.
We have enjoyed our first trip of the year with a visit to Liverpool Mosque. This linked with our topic of Islam for RE. We also had a speaker who came and told us all about life for Muslim's. Class 9 got to go to Liverpool museum and see the Terracotta Warriers. They loved thier trip and Class 10 cannot wait to go next week!
Class 10 have just returned from their trip to see the Terracotta warriers and had a brilliant morning! Take a look at the gallery and see some of our pictures!
